29 A+ College Ready Schools in Alabama Honored with AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award

Montgomery, Ala.  – A+ College Ready is proud to announce that 29 current or previous program schools have been awarded the College Board’s AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award. According to the College Board, this award recognizes schools that are closing the gender gap and expanding young women's access to computer science coursework in AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) and AP Computer Science A (AP CSA). Specifically, College Board honors schools that have either reached 50% or higher female examinee representation in one of or both AP computer science courses, or whose percentage of the female examinees met or exceeded that of the school's female population.

In addition to our Advanced Placement Training & Incentive Program, A+ College Ready, a program of A+ Education Partnership, provides high-quality computer science teacher training statewide for Advanced Placement computer science courses. Training is also available through A+ College Ready for the middle school grades. A+ College Ready is a Code.org Regional Partner. ABOUT THE A+ COLLEGE READY PROGRAM, A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ALABAMA STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

A program of the statewide education advocacy organization A+ Education Partnership, A+ College Ready is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization that works with Alabama schools, the ALSDE, and public and private funders to maximize the number of students who are prepared for college or any other pursuit upon graduation from high school. There are currently 198 Alabama High schools represented in 13 cohorts. The original goal of the program is to strengthen the teaching of AP mathematics, science, and English courses, to build enrollment in these courses, and to increase the number of students taking and earning qualifying scores on AP exams in Alabama public schools. The work has evolved to concentrate equally on the preparation of a robust and diverse pipeline of students in Grades 6-10 who will be prepared for the rigorous coursework in high school, including Advanced Placement.

ABOUT A+ EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP

A+ Education Partnership was created to unite business, civic, government, and education leaders around one common goal: improving student opportunity and achievement for every Alabama child, no matter where they live. Since then, A+ has worked relentlessly to pair best policies with best practices so that every child has the opportunity and the support they need to be successful in school. Over the past 28 years, A+ has worked with elected and appointed officials as a trusted nonpartisan advocate for advancements in public education statewide, sometimes as partner, sometimes as critical friend, but always as an advocate for better outcomes. A+ is the home of the Alabama Best Practices Center and A+ College Ready.
